Finalists Announced for Australian National Youth Concerto Competition

The 3 Finalists have been announced for the 2018 Australian National Youth Concerto Competition - in Brisbane, Australia

The 3 Finalists have been announced for the 2018 Australian National Youth Concerto Competition – to be held in Brisbane, Australia on the 23rd of September.

The 2018 Finalists are:

• 14-year-old violinist Alicia Poon from Sydney
• 14-year-old violinist Grace Wu from Melbourne
• 16-year-old violinist Andrew Wang from Sydney

Widely regarded as the most significant development prize for Australian string soloists 17 years and younger – previous 1st prize winners include Tchaikovsky Competition prize winner, violinist Jane Peters, Australian Chamber Orchestra Artistic Director and Leader, Richard Tognetti, Stuttgart Radio Symphony 1st Concertmaster Natalie Chee, international cello soloists Li Wei Qin and Clancy Newman, Menuhin and Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competitions 1st Prize Winner, VC Artist Ray Chen - and Michael Hill International Violin Competition 1st Prize Winner, VC Artist Suyeon Kang.

The Australian National Youth Concerto Competition was established by conductor John Curro and the Queensland Youth Orchestras in 1976 - to encourage the development of outstanding young Australian string players.

The 2018 jury will comprise: violinist Alan Smith, violist David Deacon and cellist Matthew Farrell.

15-year-old violinist Lili Stephens, 16-year-old violinist Chae Eun Oh and 12-year-old violinist Jingyi Wang have been announced as 2018 competition recitalists - and will also give a number of public performances as part of the week long annual event.
