Hallé Orchestra Names New Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor

Singaporean conductor Kah Chun Wong will step into the role

At the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester, Singaporean conductor Kah Chun Wong succeeds outgoing conductor Sir Mark Elder, who has become synonymous with the Hallé after serving as its Principal Conductor since 1999.

Kahchun Wong will begin the role at the opening of the 2024/25 season, for an initial term of five years.

Kahchun Wong has recently also been named as the Chief Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra from the opening of the 2023/24 season, and will also take on the role of Principal Guest Conductor at the Dresdner Philharmonie. Wong recently concluded a successful term as Chief Conductor of the Nürnberger Symphoniker.

In recent seasons, he has made debuts with the New York Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and has also appeared with ensembles such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.
