Pavel Haas Quartet Appoints New Violist
Slovakian violist Šimon Truszka will step into the role
Following a twelve-month search and audition period, the Pavel Haas Quartet has named the Slovakian violist Šimon Truszka as its newest member.
A former member of the Kukal Quartet, Truszka studied with Jan Pěruška at the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague. He was a member of the European Youth Orchestra and the BE Phil, and is a laureate of the Prague Spring International Competition.
Truska has performed in concert halls including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Truska joins other Pavel Haas Quartet members violinists Veronika Jarůšková and Marek Zwiebel, and cellist Peter Jarůšek. Formed in 2002, the group has been named one of the top 10 greatest string quartets of all time by BBC Music Magazine.
The quartet has been a Rising Star with the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO) and was a BBC New Generation Artist from 2007 to 2009.
"After one year of intense searching, we are happy to announce a new member on viola position, Šimon Truszka," the quartet wrote on social media. "Welcome on board, Šimon, and let's enjoy our common journey around the beautiful world of music."
"I’m very honored, happy, and blessed that I can join this world-famous string quartet," wrote Truszka. "I’m looking forward to sharing the music with Pavel Haas Quartet."
