Piccolo Violino Magico Competition Announces 2024 Candidates

The international competition will be held from July 1–7, 2024, in San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy

 

Open to violinists up to age 13 of any nationality, the first prize winner of the Piccolo Violino Magico Competition will receive a scholarship worth €5,000, and a violin made by contemporary Italian luthier Fabio Piagentini, valued at €9,000.

The second prize is worth €3,000, the third prize is €2,000, and the fourth prize is €1,000; further special prizes will also be announced. The final concert and award ceremony will be held on July 7, 2024.

The official 2024 candidates include:

  • Rui Kondo, Japan
  • Yoojun Curtis Lee, USA
  • Yunduo Li, China

  • Brando Maria Medici, Italy
  • Margaryta Pochebut, Ukraine
  • Lena-Lisa Rosa, Switzerland
  • Hyunsuk Ryu, South Korea
  • Antonio Saric, Bosnia and Erzegovina
  • Baiyi Tao, China
  • Marcus Wong, USA/China

The above 16 will be directly admitted to the competition. Since the competition had many applicants of high level, they chose an additional 12 violinists to compete for a spot as an official candidate during a live selection round in San Vito al Tagliamento on July 1. Four violinists will be chosen as an official candidate.

The 12 "Live Selection" candidates include:

  • Chunxi Liu, China
  • Jane Park, Republic of Korea
  • Lihan Wang, China

The violinists that will not pass this live selection round will be offered free masterclasses with one member of the jury and the chance to perform a piece in a concert. Moreover, they will become part of the Jury for the first two rounds of the Competition.

Organized in three rounds, the competition will take place at the Auditorium Comunale in San Vito al Tagliamento. The jury, with president Pavel Vernikov, includes Sophie Besancon, Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, Nazareno Carusi, Maja Jokanovic, Sunny Lee, and Yuan Tian.

For the first two rounds, the competitors will be accompanied by the Accademia d’Archi Arrigoni ensemble. Final round competitors will perform with the FVG Orchestra and Maestro Giancarlo Guarino.
