Applications for the 78th Concours de Genève — Voice Competition 2024 will close on April 17, 2024. Any singer born after October 22, 1992 (i.e. younger than 32 years old) is eligible to apply, regardless of gender or nationality.
Potential candidates must undergo a recorded pre-selection round. Once selected, they will take part in a pre-recorded First Round, in which they must present a 25-30 minute recital.
Then, the live semi-final round will take place in Geneva. This round comprises three sections: an opera recital, a lieder recital, and a proposal for a personal artistic project. Those who progress to the final will perform with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
For the pre-selection round, candidates should prepare one baroque or classical aria (oratorio or opera), one opera aria, and one lied or song. The works chosen must be from three different periods and in three different languages. A maximum of 40 candidates will proceed to the second round.
First Prize is valued at 20,000 CHF, while Second Prize is 12,000 CHF and Third Prize is 8,000 CHF. In 2024, the jury comprises Patricia Petibon (Chair), Aviel Cahn, André Comploi, Jean Denes, Sophie de Lint, and Waltraud Meier.
Founded in 1939, the Concours de Genève is one of the world’s leading international music competitions. More than 800 artists have passed through the competition over the course of its history. Each year two disciplines are offered in rotation, choosing from piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, cello, viola, string quartet, voice, percussion, and composition.
