English Composer Anthony Payne has Died, Age 84
Payne is widely known as the composer who finished Edward Elgar's unfinished Third Symphony, a five-year-long project commissioned by the BBC Proms in collaboration with composer Colin Matthew
Payne wrote his own Pomp and Circumstance March for the 2005 BBC Proms in addition to a myriad of his own works.
Also regarded as a writer and musicologist, he wrote books on Arnold Schoenberg and Frank Bridge — and wrote as a music critic for British sites like The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, and Country Life.
Payne would often perform with his wife, soprano Jane Manning. The two were inseparable, and she, unfortunately, passed away just a month ago.
We extend our condolences to Mr. Payne's friends, family, and colleagues.
