Erik Martens on the New Jargar Strings Evoke Cello String Set
Discover the latest Jargar Strings' cello string set, which provides a brilliant, powerful, round, and focused sound
The Violin Channel recently caught up with Erik Martens, Administrative Director of Jargar Strings to learn more about their new Evoke cello string set.
Tell us about the brand new Evoke Cello string set? What needs does the set meet for cello players?
The Evoke Cello set is the newest addition to the cello string family at Jargar. We have been working very hard to create something completely new but still keeping the Jargar sound with a good balance between brilliance and warmth. We knew that we wanted to create a set with some key features: very well balanced between all four strings, very powerful, easy to play, and very focused without losing the Jargar sound characteristics. This is also what you get as a player putting on the set on your instrument.
What are the Evoke Cello strings’ main characteristics? Which players and instruments are they most suitable for?
The Evoke by Jargar Strings are designed to power the projection of your instrument and your personality. Evoke gives you a brilliant, round, and focused sound with elegant timbre. They respond immediately to your every change in intonation and articulation. Smooth and easy under your fingertips, and with the well-known Jargar Strings stability, they allow you to project like never before and give that powerful performance you´re eager to present with ease. The set is very well balanced between all four strings and you will experience that the A string isn’t overpowering the D string which is the case for many other sets on the market.
The strings:
A: Gives a fine, brilliant, and direct sound with multiple articulation possibilities.
D: Is a fine round sounding string with a powerful projection and a direct response.
G: Gives a focused, round, and crystal clear sound with a noble timbre and slightly metallic overtones.
C: Gives a focused, round, and crystal clear sound with a noble timbre and slightly metallic overtones.
If you like a set that is super easy to play but with a very direct sound, it is definitely the set for you. The set is intended for more advanced players from good amateurs up to professional soloists. If you have a darker-sounding cello that you would like to brighten up, it is a very good match.
What are they made from, and how do these materials affect the sound timbres?
G and C are made of a spiral core with windings of Tungsten and Nickel so you get this very fast bow response and powerful sound. On the A and D, you have a multi-alloy winding that gives this distinct Jargar sound with a good combination of warmth and brilliance.
Within the Jargar string set family, where would you say the Evoke Cello set would sit compared to your other sets?
The Evoke set is definitely at the top end of our cello set family together with Superior. The Evoke Cello set differs from the Superior by having this instant powerful sound from the first stroke which gives this very easy playability where you will need to work a little harder with the bow with the Superior set.
Where can cellists purchase the new string set?
The set will be available from all the big web shops and violin makers can order the set from Connolly Music
