IU Jacobs School of Music Appoints Stephen Rose as Adjunct Professor
Rose, who is the principal second violin at the Cleveland Orchestra, will step into the position in August 2024
Starting August 1, 2024, violinist Stephen Rose will take up an adjunct professorship on the faculty of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University
He brings with him a wealth of teaching experience from the two decades he has spent as a member of the faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, his alma mater.
The principal second violin of the Cleveland Orchestra since 2001, Rose was also the first violinist of the Everest Quartet from 1992 to 1996 — and during that time, the ensemble was a top prize winner at the Banff International String Quartet Competition.
An avid chamber musician, Rose regularly appears at festivals around the world, including the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Mimir Chamber Music Festival, the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, and others.
Rose also teaches regularly at the New World Symphony, National Orchestral Institute, and Kent Blossom Music Festival, as well as presenting frequent masterclasses at universities and conservatories.
"We warmly welcome Steve Rose to our storied Strings Department," said Abra Bush, the Dean of the Jacobs School of Music. "His extraordinary tenure with The Cleveland Orchestra combined with his impressive teaching history at the Cleveland Institute of Music and beyond uniquely qualify him to help shape the next generation of great violinists from Jacobs."
"Steve’s wealth of musical knowledge, with his many years as a principal in one of the world’s most renowned orchestras and his vast experience in chamber music, makes him a marvelous addition to our faculty, and we could not be happier to welcome him," said Simin Ganatra, the chair of the Strings Department.
