Set in three acts, Katya Kabanova is based on Alexander Ostrovsky’s play, The Storm, which tells a story of love, entrapment, and tragedy. Following the release of The Cunning Little Vixen in 2020, Janáček: Katya Kabanova adds to the LSO's expansive collection of recordings.
The ensemble performs over 50 concerts a year to audiences throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide. Conductor Emeritus Sir Simon Rattle, who served as the Music Director from 2017-2023, has made over 70 recordings and received numerous prestigious international awards.
American soprano Amanda Majeski plays the role of Katya which she was highly acclaimed for, having made her debut with that role at the Royal Opera House. Heldentenor Simon O'Neill plays the role of Boris in the opera and performs frequently at the world's leading opera houses and festivals with particular success in Wagner roles.
