Thielemann maintains a close artistic partnership with the Vienna Philharmonic, based at the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria. Following a recording of the complete Beethoven Symphonies, Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic embarked on a project during the pandemic to record the complete Bruckner Symphonies for the 2024 Bruckner Anniversary Year. Together, they recorded a cycle of all 11 Bruckner symphonies, a first in Philharmonic recording history, which was released in Autumn 2023.
“For many years we have enjoyed a close artistic partnership with Christian Thielemann, especially in the field of the symphony," shared Daniel Froschauer, the chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic. "He is one of the orchestra’s conductors with whom we feel a special affinity. This is the reason why we have again invited him to conduct our New Year’s Concert on January 1st, 2024.”
