Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music Names New President and CEO

Alexander Brose, formerly the Executive Director of the Tianjin Juilliard School, will step into the role in August 2024

Alexander Brose will succeed The Royal Conservatory of Music's (RCM) current CEO Dr. Peter Simon, who is set to retire at the end of August 2024.

Brose comes to the role from his current position as the first Executive Director of the Tianjin Juilliard School in China. During his five years there, he has overseen the development of the school's campus, appointed all of the school's current teaching staff, and set new fundraising initiatives in place.

Born in the United States and raised in Korea and Hong Kong, Alexander Brose holds a BA in Asian Studies from Cornell University. Prior to his work at the Tianjin Juilliard School, he was the Vice President for Development at the Aspen Festival. In this role, he raised $73 million to complete a targeted campaign and raised the festival's annual operating budget.

Brose also has eleven years of experience in a variety of administrative roles at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, including as associate vice president for advancement.

"I am thrilled to welcome Alexander Brose as the next Michael and Sonja Koerner President & CEO of The Royal Conservatory," said Tim Price, the Chair of The Royal Conservatory board.

"After an extensive global search, Alexander’s vast experience in music education, collaborative spirit, and commitment to excellence made him the ideal choice to succeed Dr. Peter Simon after 33 years of growth and success."

"It is a tremendous honor to continue the great work of The Royal Conservatory as its next President and CEO," Brose said of his appointment.

"The Royal Conservatory‘s remarkable evolution during its long and prestigious history, but particularly over the last 33 years under Dr. Simon’s guidance, has found its offerings firmly positioned among the great classical music education and arts programs worldwide. I could not be more excited to partner with The Royal Conservatory community to help write the next chapter of this extraordinary institution."
