ON THIS DAY | French Violinist Christian Ferras Was Born In 1933

A student of Marcel Chailley and George Enescu, Ferras is remembered as one of the finest virtuosi of the 20th century

Christian Ferras was a leading violinist in the French violin school, centered at his place of study, the Paris Conservatory.

Ferras is admired for his recordings of the Sibelius, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky violin concertos, through which he is known for his intense vibrato and portamenti.

He sadly took his own life in 1982, aged just 49, after a severe, lifelong struggle with depression.
