Violinist Julia Fischer has been awarded a German ‘Federal Cross’ Order of Merit for her work as a cultural ambassador for the country

It has been announced that German violinist and pianist Julia Fischer has been awarded a ‘Federal Cross’ Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany - for her work as a cultural ambassador for the country.

“Audiences worldwide admire your great passion, elegant virtuosity and artistic diversity …” Bavarian Minister of Culture Dr Ludwig Spaenle has told the 33 year old.

A former 1st prize winner at the Menuhin Competition, Julia has performed extensively internationally - and currently serves a teaching position on faculty at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts.

Created by President Theodor Heuss in 1951, the ‘Federal Cross’ is regarded as Germany’s highest civilian accolade - and is presented annually to deserving men and woman who have served to positively aid the country politically, socio-economically and intellectually.
