Australian Chamber Orchestra Acquire 1726 'Belgiorno' Stradivarius Violin
The Australian Chamber Orchestra has announced the acquisition of the 1726 'Belgiorno' Stradivarius violin to the ensemble's instrument fund
The Australian Chamber Orchestra has this week announced the acquisition of the 1726 'Belgiorno' Stradivarius violin to the ensemble's instrument fund.
The violin, purchased by the acclaimed chamber ensemble's Chairman Guido Belgiorno-Nettis and his wife, Michelle - will be on permanent loan, via the instrument bank, to the orchestra's principal violinist, Satu Vänskä.
"It has been a long-held dream of mine to have an instrument of this calibre and make it available to musicians of the capability of ACO players," the Chairman has said.
"I would like to thank my late mother and the proceeds of her estate for the opportunity to purchase this wonderful instrument ... my mother would surely be happy as she had donated so often to the ACO's Instrument Fund while she was alive," he has told local media.

The 1726 'Belgiorno' will accompany the ACO's 1728-29 Stradivarius violin - which was acquired by the ACO Instrument Fund in 2011.
