Classical Austrian composer Joseph Haydn died on this day in 1809.
Known to be an influential figure in the development of chamber music, Haydn was close friends with Mozart and a teacher to Beethoven. Throughout his life, he wrote 107 symphonies, 83 string quartets, 45 piano trios, 62 piano sonatas, 26 operas, amongst many other works.
