Prizes Awarded at Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition
The Merz Trio has been awarded 1st prize in the Senior Strings Division at the 46th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition
The New England Conservatory-based Merz Trio has been awarded 1st prize in the Senior Strings Division at the 46th Annual Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition – in South Bend, Indiana, United States.
Comprising violinist Brigid Coleridge, cellist Julia Yang and pianist Eric Dionne, the ensemble will receive US $7,000 – plus a number of important performance opportunities.
2nd and 3rd prizes in the Senior Strings Division were awarded to the Abeo Quartet and Dior Quartet.
1st prize in the Junior Strings Division was awarded to the Fervida Trio.
2nd and 3rd prizes in the Junior Strings Division were awarded to the Éclatante String Quartet and Meraki Quartet.
The competition's overall Grand Prize plus 1st prize in the Senior Winds/Brass Division was awarded to the Texas Tech University based Aruna Saxophone Quartet.
This year’s Senior Strings Division jury comprised: violinist Daniel Phillips, violist Sabina Thatcher, cellist Michael Reynolds and pianist Marian Hahn.
This year’s Junior String jury comprised: violinist Rebecca Fischer, cellist Jeffrey Ziegler and pianist Liza Stepanova.
Since its founding in 1973, more than 6,600 musicians have participated in the annual competition – including former Grand Prize recipients VC Artists Calidore Quartet and the Dover Quartet.
