Prizes Awarded at Germany’s Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition
The Baum Quartet has been awarded 1st prize in the String Quartet division at the 2020 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition
The South Korean-based Baum Quartet has this week been awarded 1st prize in the String Quartet division at the 2020 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition – in Berlin.
The ensemble, comprising violinists Sun Shin and Onyou Kim, violist Daekyu Han and cellist Hang-Oh Cho, will receive €4,000.
Hosted annually since 1967 by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Rectors’ Conference of German Music Universities and the Berlin University of Arts, and focusing each year on a different instrumental discipline, the competition is open to students of selected German conservatories.
2nd and 3rd prizes in this year’s String Quartet division were awarded to the Cheng Quartet from Hanover - and the HANA Quartet from Munich.
