The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has this week announced the appointment of 31-year-old New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New as its new Principal Guest Conductor - effective from the commencement of the 2019/2020 season.

A graduate of the Peabody Institute of Music and former Dudamel Conducting Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gemma currently serves as Music Director of the Hamilton Philharmonic in Ontario, Canada – and as Resident Conductor with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

“Gemma is one of the most exciting young conductors active on the international stage today ... our search committee was extremely impressed with her inspiring podium leadership and the excellent artistic achievements ..." Dallas Symphony Association President & CEO Kim Noltemy has said.

"We know that she will be a fantastic artistic complement to incoming Music Director Fabio Luisi,” she has said.

“It is a great pleasure and privilege to be named to this position at the Dallas Symphony ...I am looking forward to joining these exceptional musicians on the Meyerson Symphony Center stage, creating transformative performances with them as well as making many new friends in Dallas” Gemma has said.
