24-year-old Lorenz Chen has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Schoenfeld International Violin Competition – in Harbin, China
24-year-old Lorenz Chen, from Germany, has just minutes ago been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Schoenfeld International Violin Competition – in Harbin, China.
A student of Professor Ana Chumachenco, Lorenz is a former major prize winner at the Henri Marteau and Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competitions.
He will receive US $30,000.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Vasyl Zatsikha from Ukraine and Wendi Wang from China.
4th and 5th prizes were awarded to Felicitas Schiffner from Germany and Eimi Wakui from Japan
"I feel so overwhelmed ... there was so much stress this whole week but I feel so happy to have been awarded 1st prize here in Harbin ..." Lorenz has told The Violin Channel.
"I want to thank my family and friends ... and of course my two wonderful teachers and mentors Julia Fischer and Professor Chumachenko," he has said.
The 2018 jury comprised: Jean-Jacques Kantorow (Chair), David Geringas (Chair), Ole Bøhn, Andrés Cárdenes, Anne Gastinel, Karine Georgian, Rudolf Koelman, Kun Hu, Grzegorz Kotow, Jakob Kullberg, Alexander Markov, Amit Peled, James Tennant, Raphael Wallfisch and Raimund Trenkler.
Former prize winners include VC Artists Bomsori Kim, Ji Won Song, and Richard Lin.
