Polish violin virtuoso and composer Henryk Wieniawski was born on this day in 1835.
Wieniawski was a child prodigy who enrolled in the Paris Conservatory when he was eight years old and graduated just three years later.
During his touring years, he was often likened to the great Niccolò Paganini.
The Wieniawski International Violin Competition, in Poznan, Poland is named in his honor.
