The Houston Symphony, in Houston, Texas, United States has today announced the appointment of South Korean-born violinist Yoonshin Song as its new Concertmaster - effective from the commencement of the 2019-2020 season.
She will replace Frank Huang, who stood down from the role in 2016 to take up the equivalent position with the New York Philharmonic.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, Yoonshin has served as Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony since 2012.
The orchestra has indicated they were looking at a total of 39 candidates for the position - 17 who performed as Guest Concertmaster with the ensemble.
"Yoonshin’s exceptional musicality, artistry, experience, and personality made her our unanimous choice …,” Houston Symphony Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada has said.
“I am thrilled that she will be joining us and look forward to working with her, knowing that she will enrich the musical life of our city through our work together with the orchestra," he has said.
