A student of 2018 jury member Pavel Vernikov at the Lausanne University of Music, 19-year-old VC Young Artist Rennosuke Fukuda from Japan is a former 1st prize winner at the Menuhin Junior, Kloster Schöntal and Valsesia Musica International Violin Competitions.
A student of Competition Artistic Director Krzysztof Wegrzyn at the Hannover University of Music, 21-year-old Cosima Soulez Larivière from France/Holland is a former 1st prize winner at the Brahms International Violin Competition and the Bartok World Competition
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Ida Kavafian, and current post graduate student of Catherine Cho at The Juilliard School, 24-year-old VC Young Artist Timothy Chooi from Canada is a former major prize winner at the Schadt and Michael Hill International Violin Competitions - and in August of this year was awarded the ‘Prix Yves Paternot’ Prize for the most outstanding young musician at this year’s Verbier Festival.
A student of Ida Kavafian at the Curtis Institute of Music, 22-year-old Youjin Lee from South Korea is a former 1st prize winner at the Stulberg, Irving M. Klein and Washington International String Competitions.
A pre-college graduate of the Hannover and Hamburg Universities of Music, where he studied with Ina Kertscher, Lara Lev and Tanja Becker-Bender, and current student of Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory, 21-year-old Leonard Fu from Germany is a former prize winner at the Andrea Postacchini and Lipizer International Violin Competitions.
A student of Boris Garlitsky at the Folkwang University of the Arts, in Essen, Germany, 19-year-old Dmytro Udovychenko from Ukraine is a former major prize winner at the Leopold Auer, Jascha Heifetz and Odessa International Violin Competitions - and was recently awarded the Grand Prize at the 2018 Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition – in Marche, Italy.
In the Final round, all 6 Finalists will lead a performance of a Mozart or Beethoven Quintet with the Kuss String Quartet – plus present a major violin concerto with conductor Andrew Manze and the NDR Radiophilharmonie.
Krzysztof Wegrzyn, as Artistic Director, will not particulate at all in the formal voting process.
Open to international violinists aged between 16 to 27 who are ready to embark on an international career, the 1st prize winner will receive €50,000, the three year loan of a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini violin, an international CD release – and a number of important international performance opportunities.
The 2018 jury comprises: Salvatore Accardo, Andrej Bielow, Masafumi Hori, Kyung Sun Lee, Silvia Marcovici, Qian Zhou, Ulf Schneider, Vilmos Szabadi and Pavel Vernikov.
